October 30, 2010 · No Comments

Our Humanity in the Balance Adviser,  Dr Halima Bashir (see About page), has been given the Anna Politkovskava Award in London, a prize in the memory of Anna Politkovskava who was murdered four years ago in Moscow for her advocacy against the actions of Russian troops in Chechnya and rampant corruption in the Russian government.

Dr Bashir was recognized for her work with young girls and their teachers who were raped in Darfur and for her bearing witness against atrocity crimes in Sudan.  Her testimony was part of the evidence used in the ICC's indictment of Sudan President Omar al-Bashir for Crimes Against Humanity.  In addition to serving as Adviser to Our Humanity in the Balance, Dr Bashir continues to advocate for women and girls in Sudan despite threats to her life.
